Austrailians (Aussies, for instance), are fond of altering words and adding an ie or y, and their language is heavy with slang terms ending in long E. Any good Yank (they tell me that's not a pejorative term, but I'm not convinced) will recognize some words, others are opaque. I've heard these in conversation: Tazzie (Tasmania, or a Tasmanian), breckie (breakfast), telly, dunny (bathroom???), Chrissy (Christmas), nappies (diapers), esky (cooler), tinny (kept in the esky), uni (university), mozzie (mosquito), footy (not what you think it is) and blowie (exactly what you think it is). I love this place.
